Notes for Elizabeth CANHAM
Information received from Peter Murray in 1997 shows that, according to
Campling's "East Anglian Pedigrees," Elizabeth Canham, daughter of
William and Helen Canham of Lowestoft, was married in Lowestoft November
26, 1668, to Robert Sherington of Lowestoft, who was christened January
28, 1643-4 and buried October 9, 1701 (Admon.). She was then married for
the second time in Lowestoft in 1704 to Robert Dewing of Haddescoe
Norfolk. The research of Mrs. Pamela Cole instead makes Elizabeth Canham
the daughter, christened in Lavenham Suffolk in 1645, of Francis Canham
(or Kanham) who would appear to be a brother of our William. Her source
is not stated and Campling's account seems quite authoritative, so
perhaps more likely, since William died when she was only 4, she may have
been raised by her uncle Francis Canham. [T21.ftw]
