Notes for Robert BROWNE

---

Information received from Peter Murray in 1997 showed that Robert Browne,
of Lowestoft, was baptised there September 27, 1740. He died at age 66
on September 18, 1806, and was buried at Lowestoft September 21, 1806.
His will dated October 29, 1785, was proved at Ipswich December 2, 1806
(Arch.of Suffolk). This Robert Browne succeeded his father as manager of
the Lowestoft China factory. He married, by licence (Ipswich) dated July
10, 1769, Elizabeth Woodthorpe (born 1746, died January 26 1832),
daughter of John Woodthorpe of Carleton, Coleville, Suffolk County,
England. She died aged 86 and was buried at Lowestoft January 31, 1832.
Robert and Elizabeth (Woodthorpe) Browne had at least 11 children and
numerous descendents as traced by F. A. Crisp. Among the children was
another Robert Browne, who took over the Lowestoft China Works after his
