Notes for George F. SNOW

The family Bible kept by Maria Morrison Snow beginning 1864 and currently
in the possession of Susan Persia Thurtell Miller shows George F. Snow,
Maria's son, was born December 6, 1867, in Dallas County, Iowa, and died
July 29, 1887, age 18 years, seven months and 23 days. The year of death
was written as 1886 but appears to have been corrected to 1887.

Notices that appeared in the newspaper, the "Bulletin" of Hawthorne,
Nevada, glued in the back of the Bible show that George Snow was a
compositor (writer) employed by the "Bulletin" and that he died due to
typhoid fever. He is described as "a young man of the best habits; kind
and faithful, industrious and capable."

The Descendents of Timothy Morrison genealogy record received in 1997
from Jim Dresser of Groton, Vermont (Jim@@Dresser.net) shows the date of
death for George F. Snow as July 19, 1886.

The U.S. Census for 1880 for Nevada (Nye County, Grantsville Precinct, NV
030, Page 17, Supervisor's District 81, E.D. 37) shows Charles B. Snow as
a white male age 47, born in Pennsylvania, whose occupation was Justice
of the Peace, with a health problem of asthma. It shows both his parents
were born in Pennsylvania. He is living with his wife, Maria P, age 38,
a dress maker, who was born in Vermont, as were both her parents. It
shows their three children, all of whom were born in "Ioway," were living
with them. Charles W., age 15, was a carpenter and had also attended
school in the prior year. George F., age 12, and Mary J., age 9, were
both in school. The census was ennumerated on the 21st and 22nd of June,
1880, with information as of June 1, 1880.
