An undated family history showed "Joshua Beers Hall was a chaplain in the
Civil War and was awarded land to homestead in Michigan. He used to walk
the 17 miles to Traverse City for supplies - it took four days. J. B.
and Eugenia Hall had two boys and always wanted a little girl so they
were delighted to adopt Agnes as a baby. The boys went to college and
became lawyers and professors as did their children. Agnes didn't go but
her daughters did and became teachers. Later J. B. Hall built and
pastored a Presbyterian Church in Elk Rapids and it still exists." The
same family sheet showed that the "Old Hall Place" was across the road
from the Thurtell place on M-72 towards Empire, Leelanau County,
Michigan.
