Notes for Margaret Elaine MURRAY

Information received from Peter Murray in 1997 shows that Margaret Elaine
Murray, "Marge," born October 25, 1902, compiled the "Family Book"
containing the family history, clippings, photos, etc. She married
Alfred William Shearing, "Jim," born in London, England, October 18,
1902, who came to South Africa in 1929 and farmed Bruinrug farm,
Nelspoort, Cape Province. They still lived there after he retired and
also owned Hartebeesfontein, Reitkloof, and Reitvlei farms, all farmed by
their children.

Marge and Jim Shearing made a great impression on Peter Murray's
grandmother Freda (Mrs. E. G. D. Murray) when she visited them around
1980, as marvellously kind, interesting, and accomplished people, and
described her visit in almost photographic detail. Marge kept up an
extensive correspondence on family affairs as well as personal contacts
that could truly be said to have bound her far flung extended family
together as it never had been before. Marge and Jim moved from Bruinrug
farm in 1988, after 56 years there, to a smaller retirement house in
Beaufort West, but their son Andy continued to manage the farm. Marge
died on June 16, 1992, after a stroke, having never fully recovered her
strength after a fall a year before. They had two children.
