Notes for Alice THURTELL
Information received from Peter Murray in 1997 showed that Alice
Thurtell, daughter of John and Alice Thurtell, was mentioned in her
father's will in 1729, at which time she was unmarried. In her father's
will she was left one feather bed on which she usually slept and all the
furnishings belonging to it, and the sum of five shillings. Alice
Thurtle married Robt Backamore on July 16, 1730, at St. Julian, Norwich,
Norfolk, England (IGI Batch M044461, Serial 0722). Her mother in her
will, 1734/5, bequeathed to "daughter Alice wife of Robert Backmore the
sum of forty shillings ... and all my wearing cloths & linnen & all the
sd funds & legacies to be paid within the space of twelve months next
after my decease". Another spelling of the name is "Blackmore."
