Notes for Mary Catherine THURTELL

The 1850 U.S. Census for Jamestown, Grant County, Wisconsin, lists Catharine Thurtle as the youngest child of Edward B. Thurtle and Anne Thurtle. It was ennumerated September 19, 1850, and shows her as age 1 born in Wisconsin. She is shown as Mary Thurtle, age 11, born in Wisconsin and attending school, and one of the children of Edward B. Thurtle and Amy Thurtle in the 1860 U.S. Census for Jamestown, Grant County, Wisconsin, on page 95. The entry about Ransom B. Folts in a 1901 Grant County, Wisconsin, biographical record shows his wife's sister, Mary Thurtell, was the wife of George Withrow, of Chicago, who is now in the Klondike.

The Wisconsin marriage index shows that George Withron (an obvious typo for Withrow) and Mary C. Thurtell were married in Grant County, Wisconsin, on February 21, 1870; and the record is on file in Grant County in Volume 5, page 82, sequence numbers 22964-22965.

The June 7, 1916, obituary for her husband, George Withrow, shows Mary Catherine Withrow was residing in Kansas City, Missouri, and had been unable to attend her husband's funeral in Cornelia Church, Grant County, Wisconsin, due to her ill health.
