Notes for Ada Georgina MURRAY

According to the History of the Thurtell Family done by Susan Persia
Thurtell about 1968, Ada Thurtell married (1) Tom Moltke and (2) Herbert
Murray and had one child by her first marriage, Mary. The information is
all from the large family tree done by Harriet Thurtell about 1900 that
goes all the way back to James Thurtell, who died January 19, 1801, at
age 63.

Information received from Peter Murray in 1997 shows that Ada's name was
actually Ada Georgina Murray, since her grandfather had changed the
family name to Murray. His information shows that Ada Georgina Murray,
the only child of George and Harriet (Southey) Murray, was born March 20,
1862, and died October 14, 1949. She married for the first time in the
Dutch Reformed Church at Aberdeen, Cape Province, in 1887, Rudolph
Leopold von Moltke, who died in 1890 (or 1895?). She married for the
second time on December 9, 1897, her first cousin Herbert Howard Murray,
(born May 22, 1871, and died May 14, 1953), A.M.I. who was a consulting
mechanical engineer in East London. Herbert was the youngest son of
Alfred and Ann (Pears) Murray.

Rudolph and Ada (Murray) von Moltke had one child, and Herbert and Ada
(Murray) Murray had three children. Ada and Herbert collected the
information and compiled the enormous Thurtell and Everitt Pedigrees
which sparked the interest of later members of the family in the family
history. As a gardener, Ada was author of a well known book, "Carnation
Growing in South Africa."
