Notes for Charles Snow THURTELL

The birth announcement of Charles Snow Thurtell appeared in the "Nevada
State Journal" on June 23, 1899. It stated "Born - Thurtell - in Reno,
Nevada, June 21, 1899, to the wife of Professor H. Thurtell, a son."

He is listed as Charles Thurtell, age 10, born in Nevada, living with his
parents, siblings, and grandmother Maria Snow in the U.S. Census for Reno
City, Washoe County, Nevada, for 1910 (Supervisor's District 171,
Enumeration District 71, Sheet 7A). This shows they were living at 761
North Centre Street, Reno, Nevada. The census was enumerated on April
10, 1910.

In a 1997 telephone conversation, RobRoy (Sandy) McGregor recalled that
Charles Snow Thurtell was in the Army Signal Corps in France during World
War I. After the war he did barnstorming in airplanes. He was a
supervisor for the Navy Department as a civilian employee in Washington,
DC, for many years. He also owned a restaurant, the Devonshire Grill on
Wisconsin Avenue NW, Washington, DC. His hobbies were hunting, fishing,
and the boat he owned. He was also a very good mechanic and woodworker.
He is buried in Arlington Cemetery, Arlington, Virginia.
