1895, in the 1900 U.S. Census for Manitowoc County, Wisconsin (SD 213,

County, Wisconsin, with her parents, Herbert and Carrie M. Thurtell, her

Chapel, whose last name looks like Chaper in the census.
She is listed in the 1911 Traverse City directory as "Thurtell, Helen,

The U.S. Census Soundex for Michigan for 1910 (030 0056 0270) shows Helen
Thurtell as age 14, born in Wisconsin, and living in Traverse City, Grand

Articles in the Traverse City Record Eagle on August 12 and 14, 1918,
show Helen Thurtell was a graduate of the Traverse City, Michigan schools
and very popular. Her parents had moved to Benton Harbor in May 1918,
and she had gone with them, later going to Nitro, West Virginia, where
she had taken a government position in a munitions plant. She had been
there only six weeks when she was striken with typhoid fever, and she
died in Nitro two weeks later. Funeral services were held from the home
of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Caldwell, 416 Sixth Street, Traverse City, by Rev.
Demas Cochlin from the First Congregational Church.
