The "Nora Shinoe" who married David Benjamin Folts in 1888 is quite possibly the Leanora Shinoe, age 19, listed in the 1880 U.S. Census as living in Paris, Grant County, Wisconsin (SD 2, ED 120, Page 6), enumerated June 8, 1880. The family of Mary J. Shinoe appears on the same page as the family of John T. Withrow. Mary J. Shinoe is shown as a widow, age 49, born in Pennsylvania, whose occupation is keeping house. It shows both her parents were born in Scotland. Living with her is her son, John L. Shinoe, age 21, who is single, a laborer, born in Wisconsin, with his father born in Ohio and his mother born in Pennsylvania. Also living in the household is Mary's daughter, Leanora, age 19 and born in Wisconsin, who is shown as single with an occupation of keeping house. Mary's son Benjamin is shown as 17, born in Wisconsin, single and a laborer, and attended school within the census year. Her daughter Maggie is shown as 8 and born in Wisconsin, with an occupation of attending school. The mother of all four of the children is shown as born in Pennsylvania. The father of John, Leanora, and Benjamin is shown as born in Ohio. The place of birth of Maggie's father is not shown.
