Notes for Margaret Eliza SMITH

Family information showed that Margaret Smith was born in Bates City, Missouri, and married Mr. Bozarth.

Margaret Smith is listed as single, age 18 or 19, born in Iowa, and working as a clerk in a Soft Drink P??? in the 1920 U.S. Census for Plymouth County, Iowa (SD11, ED 127, Page 4B, Line 67) which shows her living with her parents, Walter and Mary Street, her paternal grandmother, Lucy Smith, and five siblings on Dover Street, Kinglsey Town, Garfield Township, Plymouth County, Iowa.

Additional information about Margaret E. Smith, her husband, St. Clair (S. J.) Bozorth, and their descendants, as well as her husband's family was received in November 2000 from Gayle Mark. Her records showed that Margaret Smith was born April 8, 1901, in Sioux City, Iowa, the daughter of Walter Smith and Mary Thurtell, and that she married St. Clair (S. J.) Bozorth on November 23, 1919, in Sioux City, Iowa.

The Social Security death index shows that Margaret Bozarth, whose Social Security number 488-68-8088 was issued in Missouri, was born April 8, 1901, and died September 11, 1991.

Her obituary appeared in "The Kansas City Star," Kansas City, Missouri, on September 13, 1991, on pages C3 and C4, and was found in the Ancestry.com library in November 2000. It showed, "ODESSA - Margaret Eliza Smith Bozarth, 90, died Sept. 11, 1991, in a nursing home in Odessa, where she lived. She was born in Kingsley, Iowa, and moved to Odessa in 1920. Mrs. Bozarth was a member of the former Cumberland Presbyterian Church, Bates City, Mo. She was a 60-year member of the Order of the Eastern Star in Oak Grove in Jackson County. She was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary in Oak Grove and the Happy Hollow Extension Club in Bates City. Her husband, St. Clair Bozarth, died in 1962. Survivors include two sons, Robert M. Bozarth, Odessa, and Fred C. Bozarth, Independence; a daughter, Mary Ellen Bozarth Payne, Alamogordo, N.M.; a sister, Dorothy Ellis, Chicago; 18 grandchildren; and 28 great-grandchildren. Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Ralph O. Jones Chapel, Odessa; burial in the Odessa Cemetery. Friends may call from 1 to 2 p.m. Saturday at the chapel. The family suggests contributions to the Odessa Senior Citizens Nutrition Center Inc."
