No birth record could be found for Adeline Thurtell in Kankakee County, Illinois. Illinois county clerks were not required to maintain birth and death records until 1877, although some county clerks did keep records prior to that time. Kankakee County did not keep such records before 1877, however, according to information received in December 1999 from the Illinois Regional Archives Depository System, Williams Hall, Illinois State University, Campus Box 5500, Normal, Illinois 61790-5500.

Addie Thurtell's birth is shown as July 1878 and her age as 21 in the 1900 U.S. Census soundex for Illinois (Vol. 34 or 39, E.D. 473, Sheet 16, Line 47). It shows her living with her parents, William and Abbey Thurtell, and her sisters, Thalia, age 19 born in January 1881, and Vivian, age 17 born in February 1883. All three children are shown as born in Illinois. The ages of the children each appear to be three years younger than their correct ages, possibly because the girls were still single.

She is shown as Adeline Paulson, age 32, born in Illinois, living with her parents, husband, and son William H. Paulson in the 1920 U.S. Census (Vol. 131, ED 125, Sheet 9, Line 27) for Cook County, Illinois. They were living at 201 Sixth, Wilmette, Cook County, Illinois, at the time of this census.

The index to marriage applications of St. Joseph County, Indiana, 1882-1920 found on the internet in August 1999 in the Family Tree Maker Genealogy Library shows her as Addie H. Thurtell, born July 26, 1888 (10 years after her date of birth in the 1900 Census). It shows that in book 46, page 189 and book 26, page 251, are the records of her marrying Charles M. Paulsen on April 23, 1914. This index also shows her father's name as Wm. B. and her mother's name as Addie M.
