Notes for Alfred Everitt MURRAY

His name is shown as Alfred Thurtell, and his wife's name as Annie Pears, in the family tree done by Harriet Thurtell about 1900 and the History of the Thurtell Family done about 1968 by Susan Persia Thurtell. All ten of their children are listed in that record, along with some of their grandchildren, however.

Information received from Peter Murray in 1997 shows that Alfred Everitt Murray, the second son of Alfred and Mary (Everitt) Murray, was born April 29, 1832, and christened June 3, 1832, at the Scotch Church, Saint Pancras, Regents Square, in London. He became a Government Land Surveyor in Cape Colony, South Africa. He and his wife lived at Briedbach, on the Yellowwoods River outside King Williamstown, and later in East London. He died April 9, 1909, and he and his wife are both buried at East London.

Additional information was received about the family completed by Maude Moorshead in 1975. She showed that Ann Christina Pears married Alfred Everitt Murray, a Land Surveyor. They had 10 children, the youngest of whom, Jessie Ashcraft Murray, was the mother of Maude Moorshead. In the middle 1870's Ann and Alfred Murray settled in East London, South Africa.
