A letter from Janet Kasner Thurtell dated January 30, 1975, stated that John Kasner was going to be 84 years old this year but was very feeble and sometimes confused. He had been very successful financially investing in land in Florida years before. He loved to play pinocle. He had two sons mentioned in the letter, Zigmund (or Ziggy) and Stefan. He was living in Portland, Oregon, with Zigmund, but had just moved to an apartment in Beaverton, Oregon. Janet had not seen her Uncle John since she was 17 until he stopped by with Zigmund in 1974 and stayed with her and her husband, Henry Leroy Thurtell, overnight.

According to a letter of February 5, 1977, the address Janet Kasner Thurtell had for John Kasner was 13787 S.W. Farmington Road, Apartment 36, Beaverton, Oregon 97005.

The 1928-29 Detroit, Michigan, City Directory on microfilm at the National Archives in Denver, Colorado, listed a John M. Kasner, whose wife's name was Marie, as a diemaker whose home was at 8038 Woodlawn Avenue, Detroit. At the same National Archives, on Reel 36A of the Detroit City Directory for 1931-32, John Kasner, whose wife's name is Jennie, is shown as an assembler with a home at 8038 Woodlawn Avenue, Detroit.

He is almost certainly the John Kasner found on the Social Security death index with Social Security number 376-07-0978 who was born March 13, 1892, and died in October 1979. His Social Security number was issued in Michigan before 1951, and his residence is shown as Portland, Multnomah County, Oregon 97204, and his last benefit was issued to Portland, Oregon 97225.
