Notes for Jackson W. MORRISON

A listing of births and deaths of the Morrison family in the handwriting of Julia Mary (Mate) Snow probably done in the early 1930's shows Jackson Morrison was born November 14, 1857, and died Aug 31, 1924.

The 1870 U.S. Census for Groton, Caledonia County, Vermont, on page 72A, lists Timothy Morrison as a white male age 65, born in Vermont, and a farmer with real estate valued at $3000 and a personal estate valued at $700, and eligible to vote. Living with him is Sarah B. Morrison, a white female age 44 who was born in Vermont and whose occupation is keeping house. None of the parents of either of them were of foreign birth. With them, all born in Vermont, are Jackson W. Morrison, a white male age 12, Martha J. Morrison, a white female age 10, Austin N. Morrison, a white male age 8, and Sarah B. Morrison, a white female age 3. The three older children are all in school.

The U.S. Census for 1900 for Groton, Caledonia County, Vermont (SD 274, ED 44, sheet 9) shows Jackson Morrison as head of the household and a single white male farmer age 42 born in November 1857 in Vermont and that he owns his own farm mortgage free and had no months unemployed in the prior year. Living with him is his brother, Austin N. Morrison, a white male age 38 born in March 1862 in Vermont as were his parents and married 15 years. The census shows he owns his farm mortgage free, but his occupation is shown as unable to work with 12 months unemployed in the prior year. Next is listed Carrie Morrison, the sis-in-law of Jackson Morrison. It shows she is a white female age 36 born in My 1864 in Vermont and married 15 years. She is shown as the mother of one child, who is living, and that her parents were also born in Vermont. Also in the household is Jane Martha Plummer, Jackson Morrison's sister, a white female age 38 born in Vermont in October 1861. She is shown as a widow, with both her parents also born in Vermont. The years are crossed off and corrected as if the person providing the information was unsure, and there is no information about her having any children. Next is listed George W. Morrison, Jackson Morrison's nephew, who is shown as age 15 born in February 1885 in Vermont and a student, with both his parents born in Vermont. The next person listed is shown as Hary T. Morrison, Jackson Morrison's nephew, who is shown as age 12 born in October 1887 in Vermont and a student, with both his parents born in Vermont. His age was crossed out and corrected. Fred J. Morrison, Jackson Morrison's nephew, is the next person listed. His is shown as a student age 9, born in July 1890 in Vermont with both parents also born in Vermont. The final person's name looks like Hary Corliton, a white male age 14 born in Vermont in July 1885 and a student, with both his parents also born in Vermont. His relationship is shown as stepson.
