An obituary for Lauraette appeared in the "Tuscarora Times Review," Tuscarora, Nevada, on October 22, 1898, on page 3, columns 2 and 3. This newspaper is available in microfilm at the Nevada Historical Society, Reno, Nevada. It showed, "Obituary - The sad duty devolves upon us to chronicle the death of Mrs. Lawrietta Ferguson, wife of our esteemed townsman Steven Ferguson. Mrs. Ferguson, whose maiden name was Lawrietta Snow, was born in New York in 1835 and was at the time of her death 63 years of age. She became a resident of our state in 1871, settling in Belmont, Nye County, and subsequently removing to Tuscarora where she has permanently resided during the past 15 years. She had been for many years a sufferer from heart and kidney trouble, from which death finally releived [stet] her at 4:30 P. M., Oct. 21st. Mrs. Ferguson was an active member of the Order of Rathbone Sisters of this place and was especially noted for her conservative ideas upon subjects of argument. What makes her taking off peculiarly sad is the fact that this is the second loved one the family and friends have been called upon to mourn within three weeks. In taking her from our midst God in his inscrutable wisdom has left a void in our Community. The funeral will take place from the family residence on West Avenue, at 2 o'clock P. M. Sunday, Oct. 23d."
Another notice appeared in the "Tuscarora Times Review," Tuscarora, Nevada, on October 25, 1898, on page 3, column 1. It showed, "Laid to Rest. Another of our old and highly respected citizens, in the person of Mrs. Steven Ferguson, was laid to her last long rest Sunday afternoon. What makes the [illegible word] a particularly sad one, and the blow much heavier for the surviving members to bear is the fact that her death was [illegible word] by the loss of a loved member of the family but three short weeks ago. Notwithstanding the inclemency of the weather her remains were followed to the grave by a large concourse of mourning friends on foot and in carriages, preceded by a long line of Rathbone Sisters, (of which order deceased had been an active and dearly beloved member,) and Knights of Pythias making one of the largest processions ever witnessed in Tuscarora. It was indeed a sad sight and tears stood in the eyes of many a rugged man as the solemn and mournful cortege [illegible word] on our streets. The many beautiful wreaths and emblems, interwoven by loving hands and placed upon the casket lid formed a striking contrast to the cold pale face beneath. At the cemetery T. C. Pinnkett read the burial service and the choir sang several appropriate hymns, when the body was consigned to earth sincerely mourned by an entire community. May the sod she [illegible word] rest lightly on her breast."
