The family tree done by Harriet Thurtell about 1900 and the History of the Thurtell Family done by Susan Persia Thurtell about 1968 show her name as Annie Iles. According to information received from Peter Murray in 1997, her name was Anne Iles, and she was the sister of Dorothy Iles, who married Edward Ebeneza Evans. His information showed her date of birth but not place of birth.

She is listed as Ann Evans, age 28, born in Hawkesbury, Gloucester, England in the 1881 British Census CD. She is living with her husband, Arthur Evans, a Cloth Manufacturer age 25, born in Stonehouse, Gloucester, England, and their son, Gerald A. Evans, age 8 months, born in Stroud, Gloucester, England. The family is living at Hillsdon, and the census place is Stroud, Gloucester, England. Also living with the family are two domestic servants, Amelia Wilcox, age 21, born in Sherston, Wiltshire, England, and Kate A. Matthews, age 14, born in Bisley, Gloucester, England.
